McGrath Cup at Newport International Polo

To celebrate it 40th year in business, McGrath Clambakes not only sponsored the McGrath Cup at Newport International Polo recently, but invited 120 friends to a fabulous "clambake" --which it really wasn't -- rather, it was a more traditional picnic offering raw bars, spicy tuna kabobs, etc., under a gaily striped tent at Glen Farm. The food was divine, and the fried oysters actually stole the thunder from any clams present, while three elegant tables of of cooked meats and hors d’oeuvres were served up by the McGrath culinary team.

On hand were Colleen McGrath, the official hostess, and her brother T.R. McGrath, who actively manages the company. Patriarch Tom McGrath with his two sisters, Nancy Quarry and Pattie Flowers, chatted with old friends and watched the thundering ponies..

Agnes and Dan Keating, of Newport International Polo, were on hand to sample and sip, and Amy Rice, of the Newport Polo team, spoke to Colleen before the match. Nancy Wilson stopped over from competing in the adjacent horse show at Glen Farm.

Helping to celebrate, and to watch the stirring match, were Laura Jean Flynn with David Leys, and Dawn Riel. Fashionably attired Heather Manning, Stephanie Santos, and Missi Pimental took their chairs to the perimeter of the field, Kathy Arcello and Share Willliams cheered the teams. The youngest fan was 8-weeks old Helena Liedtke, there with parents Vivienne and Helge Liedtke.
