An Appraisal of the 10th Annual Newport Antiques Show: Priceless!

Lyn Wooten & Cathering Mureddu, of the Boys & Girls Club, checking in guests

A little piece of Paradise, the world-class Newport Antique Show, held annually at St. George’s School, drew its usual complement of fine arts, furniture, book, photography, and bibelot dealers, and those in search of the rare, and even added a new element:  Appraisals by Freeman’s, allowing patrons and friends to bring in their personal treasures á la "Antiques Roadshow."

The opening night Gala Preview Party, was festive and crowded with collectors and connoisseurs. Booths were eye-catching and the well-dressed patrons moved about, examining the pieces and works of their choice, as the Mac Chrupcala Trio entered. (Lois Vaughn's Trio sounded in the lounge, as well.)  A sumptuous buffet was served and negotiations were underway between dealers and buyers.

List of distinguished dealers

Established in 2007, The Newport Antiques Show is one of the nation’s premier antiques venues,  presenting a wide selection of important Americana antiques. Over forty of the country’s top dealers present paintings, furniture, folk art, jewelry, and fine and decorative arts. Show Manager Diana H. Bittel, a distinguished antiques dealer and annual exhibitor, hand selects each dealer. Anne F. Hamilton of Newport and Philadelphia is the Show Chair; Honorary Chairs include Mrs. Samuel M.V. Hamilton, Mrs. Robert H. Charles and Mrs. John R. Donnell.

Old posters in the foyer

The Newport Antiques Show is the only Show of its caliber that benefits two non-profit organizations -- the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County—supporting Newport’s past and Newport’s future.
