Angel's Masquerade Ball Benefits Glenna’s Fund

The party organizers on Ochre Court's stairs

It was a sold out celebration at Salve Regina’s Ochre Court for the Glenna Kohl  Fund for Hope, which raises awareness about the disease melanoma. Celebrity keynote speaker Shonda Schilling, herself a melanoma survivor, was on hand to deliver a very serious message about the disease, and the loss of Glenna Kohl at the age of 26. Mrs. Schilling (her husband is Curt Schilling, former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox) has spoken about her ongoing battle with melanoma, and has been profiled in “People”, “Glamour”, “Family Circle”, “Pregnancy”, “Good Housekeeping”, and on ABC's "The View."

Meg Toland, Courtney Caulfield, Lindsay Morris & Dee Dee Flowers

Glenna, a bubbly Salve Regina graduate, succumbed to the disease in 2008. A life-long lover of the sun, the outdoors, and tanning beds, Glenna became a serious advocate for sun safety and living a healthy lifestyle after her diagnosis in 2005. Her family, and many Salve Regina friends, are continuing her mission of bringing awareness to as many people as possible on protecting their bodies from UV ray damage, and supporting the importance of early detection and prevention of the preventable and tragic disease.

A.J. Gerritson, Meg Toland, Jacob Kohl, and State Representative Peter Martin

Guests in remarkable masks and costumes came from all over the country, many of them personal friends and classmates of Glenna’s, to celebrate her life and work. State Representative Peter Martin was on hand, as were organizers Meg Toland, Courtney Caulfield, and friends Lindsay Morris and Dee Dee Flowers. The very serious purpose behind the event was not forgotten in the gaiety and music, as Dr. Donald Lawrence and Krista M. Rubin, NP, of MGH-Boston, spoke about detection. Kahootz, a fabulous band, filled the Great Hall with music and dancers, while bidders on the silent perused the offerings. The live auction featured many sports-related packages.
