Explosions of Color, Music and Design Inspired by Fashions of Doris Duke

A figure inspired by Doris Duke

In a unique partnership to support the Art Education Program, the Newport Public Education Foundation and the Newport Restoration Foundation joined forces to mount a fascinating display of student works, encompassing all areas of the arts, and celebrating creativity. The exhibition filled the Rotunda at Easton’s Beach with the  students' concepts and constructions, while young musicians played.

Students were previously taken on tours of Rough Point, Doris Duke’s home, and inspired by her fantastic wardrobe, designed, sewed, painted and created their own masterpieces from the objects that were on view there.

As hundreds of people viewed the exhibition, co-chairs Teddy Aspegren and Lynn Ceglie served cold pasta and beverages. Spirits were high, and many of the students were in attendance. Head of the Rogers High School music department Alan Bernstein, teachers Hope Chella, Nicolle Icart, Steve Schreiner, and student teacher Steve Ellis beamed with pride.
