Hopping from Yacht to Yacht to Aid Boys & Girls Clubs

Checking in at Newport Shipyard

The Super Yacht Rendezvous, held at Newport Shipyards for the third year, was a chance to partake of an age old tradition of hopping from yacht to yacht — very “have you any Grey Poupon? — or  better yet, champagne?”

The answer in all cases was “yes,” and luxury abounded.

The magnificent yachts on display were hospitable hosts to 350 bare footed
guests, who partook of libations and hors d’oeuvres while ooohing and aaahing over the magnificent vessels and their elegant interiors and impressive engineering.

Newport Shipyard hosted, benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of RI. Some of the Boys and Girls themselves greeted guests at the wharf entry, and there was a bit of hand slapping and high five-ing. Eli and Charlie Dana were on hand, as cloudy skies eventually drove the partygoers into the large tent for dinner and dancing to the Mac Chrupcala Orchestra.

A wonderful array of experiences and gifts was available at the silent auction, and the live auction was conducted by Deacon John Silvia. Joe Pratt, Executive Director, and Patti Rakolta-Keith, Board President  of Boys & Girls Clubs, led the festivities. Dancing was lively post dinner. The event raised over $250,000 for the important work of the agency.

Yachts on display were:

Columbia – 175’Schooner provided by Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc.
Meteor – 169’ Royal Huisman Sailing Yacht provided by Dan Meyers
Axia – 123’ Palmer Johnson Sailing Yacht provided by Northrop & Johnson
Siete – 115’ Benetti Motoryacht provided by Fraser Yachts
Mis Moondance – 81’ Custom Motoryacht provided by McDonald Information Systems
L650 – 65’ SeaRay Flybridge provided by Marine Max
Latitude – 32’ Classic Motoryacht provided by Cruise Latitude.

Choosing a favorite yacht?  Impossible.

The Boys & Girls Club of Newport County thanked yacht participants, committee members, volunteers and guests who made the this year’s event a success; Karen and Perry Harris, Event Chairs, BGC Board Members, and Patti Rakolta-Keith Board President, who led the efforts to support for the Club’s ongoing vital programs and services.
