Newport, Rhode Island is a living architectural museum, with more extant 18th and 19th century houses than any city except London. At the recent Preserve Rhode Island awards in Newport , three Newport restorations received the coveted Rhody Awards: Lila Delman Real Estate, a double "Rhody" for the restoration of the firm’s professional office buildings in both Narragansett and Newport, the restoration of the Stanford White Theater at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and the restoration of the glorious gates of The Breakers mansion.

Originally the “Reading Room” for gentleman visitors, the Lila Delman headquarters in Narragansett has been carefully restored to its Victorian appearance, with upgrades to the electrical and plumbing systems to make it a functioning office building. Original details and artifacts collected by Lila Delman herself adorn the new offices, enhancing its period detail. Located next to the imposing Coast Guard Tower, the structure was added onto many times, the additions were re-formed, and the porches redesigned to contain two office “wings.”

Dating from the Gilded Age, when the town attracted nationally known architects McKim, Mead & White, and socially prominent visitors from New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. "The Reading Room" was where gentlemen sought refuge from wives and families to read and smoke their cigars and pipes in the company of other gentlemen. John Hodnett of Lila Delman describes the building at 41 Ocean Road as "the original Internet café."

The landmark building at 3 Memorial Boulevard in Newport began life as a residence fitted with a small business, then became one of the popular taverns in town until it was purchased by Lila Delman Real Estate for a complete rehabilitation in 2005. From rowdy red and black, the interiors are now bright, spacious and architecturally correct, with soaring spaces and original wood details carefully restored. For this effort, Lila Delman Real Estate received the 2007 Doris Duke Historic Preservation Award from the Newport Restoration Foundation.
