Romanovsky Astounds in Newport Festival Debut
Alexander Romanovsky, a 24-year-old Russian raised in Italy,
astounded an audience of seasoned concertgoers with his powerful, articulated interpretations of works of Robert Schumann and Sergei Rachmaninoff at Belle Mer during the Newport Music Festival.

In a packed Gala at Belle Mer, attended by over 200 people, The Newport Music Festival again introduced a genius to American audiences, discovered by Festival Director Mark Malkovich III. Some audience members were calling Mr. Romanovsky “ a young Horowitz.” In a riveting performance, the young pianist exhibited prodigious technique, and gave personal interpretations in a demanding program.

Alexander Romanovsky Plays Rachmaninoff Sonata

His command never in doubt, the soloist brought out the always-present interior melody lines of Schumann’s "Symphonic Etudes", and performed the demanding "Sonata #2 in B flat"of Rachmaninoff with intensity and passion. The young pianist created surges of tempo in a commanding, brilliant performance, in which he made the music truly his own.
After his performance, the artist chatted with, and signed autographs for, adimiring fans at the post-concert reception.

At the Gala were Newport Music Festival Director Mark Malkovich III, Chairman of the Festival Board Diane Hurley, who sponsored Mr. Romanovsky’s debut, Ruth Orthwein, Marilyn Wolohoojian, Robert Sinclair, Channing Gray of The Providence Journal, and other Board members. Mr. Romanovsky’s manager, Isabella Puccini, graciously spoke with audience members.
The highly praised Newport Music Festival ended its 2009 season on the 26 of July, after 58 concerts.
