Elizabeth Tiedemann, honorary chair of the Robert H. Tiedemann Classic Yachting Weekend, held a reception and award ceremony at her home, Hilltop, for the winners of the classic yachting event in Newport last Sunday.
The regatta comprised races in three groups—classic sailing yachts, classic power yachts and the noted 12 meter fleet. Under the aegis of SailNewport, 6 meter yachts participated in preparation for their World Cup event, to be held in Newport in September.
The late Bob Tiedemann was a noted yachting enthusiast and artist in Newport. His legacy includes the revival of the yachting tradition on Narragansett Bay. From his devotion to 12 Meters, his care of classic craft including power and sail, he is closely associated with the promotion, appreciation and preservation of these maritime treasures.
On hand were Mark Still and Brooke Pastore Still, Donald Tofias, and Lucy Tulloch, Jan Slee, Dyer Jones, and aide to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Vivian Spencer and husband Michel Fleuette. Joe Dockery and his wife Kristal Dockery chatted with Susan Webster, and Wayne Grover swapped racing stories with tired by happy race participants.
The next sailing event will be the Coastal Living Newport Regatta scheduled for July 10 through 12.
