Unsung Heroes Honored by WRC as "Men Who Make A Difference"

Those who serve the community also served on trays.
The Women's Resource Center of Newport & Bristol Counties, dedicated to the prevention of domestic viiolence and aid to its victims, annually honors the men in the community who work actively, if quietly, on behalf of their cause.
This year, the WRC honored 16 heroes who have contributed to good causes and community enrichment from the Newport and Bristol County areas. The reception and dinner dance, held at The Viking Hotel, was well attended, the auction spirited, and the dancing uninhibited.

This year's honorees included three prominent Newporters: Thomas Kelly,President and CEO of Bank Newport: Jack Ambrogi, Superintendent of Schools, Newport, and Rabbi Marc Jagolinzer, spiritual leader at Temple Shalom in Middletown.
As a metaphor for their serve-ice, the honorees were awarded silver trays, and became the evening's beverage waiters. All did admirably, although Adam Greenman was concerned about his new role. Michael Browner, Jr. was adroit during the VIP cocktail reception, and Tom Kelly received many tips. A group from Salve Regina, including Sister Jane Gerety, stopped in after the dedication of the Noreen Drexel Stoner Chapel.

Board Chairman of WRC Gary Lineberry hosted a table, along with his wife Joyce, welcomed the crowd to dinner, and introduced the evenings M.C. Jim King, President and CEO of of GaGa, Inc. The fantastic band Chord to Chord played during dinner, and brought it up during the post-dinner dancing. Father Matthew Glover offered the Invocation, and President Lori N. DiPersio spoke about each man's accomplishment as slides changed behind the dance floor.
An abused woman who had been helped immensely by the services of WRC spoke movingly about her ordeal of overcoming bipolar disorder, losing everything, and the complete renewal of her life -- with help.

Honorees:
Senate Minority Leader Dennis L. Algiere represents District 38, which covers Westerly and Charlestown.
Dr. John (Jack) H. Ambrogi. He currently serves as the Superintendent of Newport Public Schools and is a member of the Rhode Island State Council - Interstate Compact on Education Opportunities for Military Children. County Educational Services Commission.
Joseph (Joe) A. Beretta, Jr., is the President and Chief Financial Officer of the Robinson Green Beretta Corporation in Providence.
R. Otis Brown serves as the Vice President of External Affairs for CharterCARE Health Partners, which employs 3,200 health professionals and is based in Providence. makes him a Man Who Makes a Difference!
Michael (Mike) N. Browner, Jr. grew up in the Community Baptist Church where he attended Sunday school, served as an usher, sang on various choirs, and later became choir director and church organist. Mike is a Social Studies teacher at Frank E. Thompson Middle School in Newport.
Robert (Bob) Corio is the founder and President of Robert Corio Designs in Johnston.
Judge Stephen Erickson is a retired Associate Judge of the Rhode Island District Court residing in Middletown, Rhode Island.
Father Matthew Glover was ordained a deacon at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and as a priest at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence. He is a Chaplain at the University of Rhode Island and is the Director of the Catholic Center.
Adam Greenman is the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance (RIASPA), a United Way of Rhode Island Education Initiative.
Edward (Ned) O. Handy III, a veteran banking industry executive and community leader, is the President of Citizens Bank for both Rhode Island and Connecticut, a division of RBS Citizens, N.A. and a subsidiary of Citizens Financial Group, Inc.
Lawrence (Larry) S. Hershoff is an Adjunct lecturer of Finance at Bryant University. He has established a successful consulting practice and is a member of the Risk Management Association (RMA).
Rabbi Marc S. Jagolinzer has been the spiritual leader at Temple Shalom in Middletown for 36 years. He is the Chaplain at Roger Williams University and is an adjunct faculty member at Salve Regina University, where he teaches a course entitled, “The Jewish Experience.”
Thomas (Tom) Kelly is the President and CEO of BankNewport and of OceanPoint Financial Partners.!
Dennis Leamy Jr. is currently a Structured Settlement Specialist at Amica Life Insurance Company in Lincoln. Prior to this role, Dennis held the positions as a Structured Settlement Associate and Account Manager at Amica.
William (Bill) D. LeMoult, Esq. is a retired attorney living in Barrington, Rhode Island. Prior to this position, he served as a Staff Attorney for the Pace Women’s Justice Center in White Plains, New York. While in this role, he represented victims of domestic violence
